"Royal Couples" fan
Polished pear wood. 19 cm (stick). Made in Spain.
Royal Couples (1770) reproduces an equestrian festival held in Aranjuez in the Plazuela del Palacio on 6 June 1770. Paret is very successful in his portrayal of the movement and energy of the crowd, whose liveliness contrasts with the disciplined movement of the riders. The scene shows the moment at the end of the main parade, led by the Prince of Asturias, the future Charles IV. A detail of the horses in this scene is reproduced in the country of this fan, a traditional, effective and sustainable remedy to mitigate the summer heat.
