TOMON HYAKKA is a new edition of the original 19th century book Tomon Hyakka (One Hundred Designs of Beautiful Things of the Capital), and is also a textile capsule collection inspired by the Meiji era prints by NWHR, an emerging streetwear Galician brand.
The original Tomon Hyakka is a splendid set of designs published in Kyoto in 1891 and comprising two volumes with 50 prints in each. The Museo del Prado holds in the Cabinet of drawings, prints and photographs a copy of the first volume of this work since 2007, donated by Antonio Correa Ruiz (1923-2008). It has never been exhibited or reproduced until now.
Inspired by the Tomon Hyakka prints, NWHR's creative team has developed for Tienda Prado a collection of 16 unisex pieces that fuse Japanese aesthetics with streetwear. The collection includes a kimono, sweatshirts, T-shirts, totes and scarves. Designed with a contemporary approach and produced in Spain, Portugal and Italy with sustainable materials, such as 100% organic cotton with GOTS certification.
