"El Pueblo" (The People) bag
Cotton and polyester. 40.5 x 45 cm. Handles 44 cm total length.
Around 1900 there was a large production of posters, which became a flashy trend, popular in specialised publications and an object of international collecting. El Pueblo. Diario republicano de Valencia (1900), designed by Joaquín Sorolla and lithographed by R. Pérez, soon became the newspaper's most iconic image. Sorolla was inspired by the woman depicted by Delacroix in Liberty Leading the People (1830; Paris, Louvre), transferring her to the Valencian setting in an image charged with symbolism. The artwork is now reproduced on this beautiful bag made of a delicate linen fabric.
