The design of these children's socks was inspired by Enrique Paternina García Cid's The mother's visit to the hospital (1892), specifically the clothes worn by the figure at bedside, probably the sister of the girl lying on it. The sensitivity of the scene makes this the best-known work by the Riojan painter and it won great critical acclaim.
