In his study, Alberto Pancorbo La Blanca, PhD in Art History and head of the Activities Department of the Fundación Amigos del Museo del Prado, reconstructs the history of this institution and emphasises the particular features that set it apart from many of its counterparts, in particular its profound vocation to raise awareness of the Museum's collections.
Throughout its three chapters, it delves into the genealogy of this type of association, the context that led to the creation of the Foundation and its trajectory, to a large extent parallel to that of the Museum itself, showing the process by which an institution that was born from the initiative of a very small group of people has managed to involve tens of thousands of friends in its project, develop a fundamental work of support for the Museo del Prado over four decades and become a reference in the dissemination of knowledge of art in Spain.
