Cátedra Juan Calatrava: Representar edificios, construir cuadros

This essay, the result of lectures given by the author during his tenure as Professor at the Museo del Prado in 2022, deals with a subject as broad and thought-provoking as the presence of architecture in painting, a highly complex and rich borderline topic that leads to the central idea running through the book: if the history of painting cannot do without the study of the representation of architectural space, neither can the history of architecture ignore those painted architectures that ultimately eloquently express the spatial ideals of a given era. The presence of architecture in painting is addressed here from various angles, developed in separate chapters: the representation of cities, the image of the architect and construction processes, the enclosures of creativity, liminal spaces and ruins.
