"Still Life with a Turkey Pie" porcelain box
Porcelain. 8 cm in diameter.
Still-life painting was a very popular genre in 17th-century Holland, where painters such as Pieter Claesz created original compositions through the faithful reproduction of various objects that evoked the status and culture of their owners. This is the case of Still Life with a Turkey Pie (1627) in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, whose exquisite nautilus cup is reproduced on the lid of this small porcelain box.
