After knew the painting of who was then the most radical and groundbreaking artist active in Rome, Caravaggio, Guido Reni modified his own style, attempting to surpass him by imitating his work. An example of this period is Saint Sebastian (1617-1619), a work that formed part of the collection of Isabel de Farnesio and has passed through various palaces until it reached the collection of the Museo del Prado, where he produced a beautiful work of chiaroscuro that can be seen in the detail reproduced on the surface of this trivet.
