"Queen Elisabeth of France" notebook
Lined paper. Stapled binding. A5 (15 x 21 cm). 32 sheets (64 pages).
This portrait, Queen Elisabeth of France, on Horseback (circa 1635), by Diego Velázquez and others, was conceived to match that of Philip IV on horseback, Elisabeth's husband, and this constitutes not only a recognition of the figure of the queen consort and the model of power she represented, but also of the political worth she had by then shown as regent in 1626 and 1632. In itself, we can see throughout the work a rich iconography in the service of this purpose, as shown in the detail of the dress reproduced on the cover of this practical notebook: the fleur-de-lis, a characteristic emblem of the French crown, and the monogram of the monarch "ISB".
