Since the 15th century the small island of Murano in Venice has become the most famous centre for the production of handmade glass. It is not only the oldest known type, but also one of the most beautiful in the world. The designs have developed into shapes and colours that are as sophisticated as they are complex. Over time, the technical quality of the blowing and their beauty have turned them into true works of art.

These pieces have been made for the Museo del Prado by the company Due Zeta, specialists in the manufacture of Venetian glass following artisanal Murano manufacturing techniques. Founded by cousins Andrea and Michele Zecchin in 1993 near Venice, CC Zecchin was created to offer an elegant yet accessible line of home décor and costume jewellery.  CC Zecchin deserves credit for having been able to reinterpret with refinement and originality the artisan tradition of historical glass masters who have enshrined the art of glass in Murano for many centuries.
