This fan, a traditional, effective and sustainable remedy for mitigating the summer heat, is reproduced a detail from the work Vase of Flowers (1600-1625) by Jan Brueghel the Elder, a magnificent landscape painter who also specialised in still lifes and vases. In this example, the flowers of different varieties are very delicately worked.
