The Spirit Level, by Chloe Aridjis, is the second book in the Writin the Prado collection, following The Museum Guard, by Nobel Laureate J.M. Coetzee. This story was written as part of the residency programme for writers organised by the Museo Nacional del Prado with the sponsorship of the Loewe Foundation and in collaboration with Granta in Spanish. Chloe Aridjis' stay at the museum took place between the beginning of October and the end of November 2023.
Chloe Aridjis is the author of three novels, The Book of Clouds, which won the Prix du premier roman étranger in France (2009); Torn, set in the National Gallery in London, and Sea Monsters, winner of the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction (2020).
Chloe writes for several art publications and was the guest curator of the Leonora Carrington exhibition at Tate Liverpool (2015). She received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2014 and the Eccles Centre and Hay Festival Writers Award in 2020. Her most recent book is Dialogue with a Sleepwalker: short stories, essays and a portrait gallery. He lives in London.
