"Lady revealing her Breast" notebook
Plain paper. A5 (14.5 x 21 cm). 100 sheets (200 pages).
The work reproduced on the cover of this practical notebook maintains the stereotypes of the images known generically as Venetian in the inventories of the 16th and 17th centuries. In particular, it focuses on the iconography of the so-called honest courtesans. The Lady revealing her Breast (1580-90) has always attracted attention for its singularity, as the sitters usually look at the viewer, while this lady turns her gaze away while clearly showing her breasts. The painter thus proposes a game of subtle eroticism in which insinuation prevails over display.
