"The founders" notebook

On the surface of this notebook is a detail of one of the works on display in the exhibition Herrera el Mozo. The Absolute Baroque, although it does not belong to this artist but to his father, Herrera the Elder. In The founders of the monastic orders taking their rule from St. Basil, ca. 1639-47., (ca. 1639-47) it is notable for its intense colouring and the contrast with the dark tones of the clothes, among which more luminous elements stand out, giving the work great strength. Over time, Herrera el Mozo distanced himself from his father's treatment of colour and followed a more personal path.
