"View of Pontoise" notebook

On the cover of this practical notebook is reproduced the work View of a river as it flows through Pontoise (?), Ile de France (1885-1890). This corresponds to the drawings that Emilio Sánchez Perrier produced in the last decade of the century. They reveal the artist's ability to achieve true pictorial effects on paper, creating monochrome compositions with rich shading, contrasts, multiple tonal gradations and striking highlights. Using a single colour, applying greater or lesser intensity and adjusting the volumes, he shapes the landscapes.
