These two centuries, heirs to the dynastic union of the Catholic Monarchs, comprise the period in which, with ups and downs, advances and setbacks, the system of monarchical power of absolutism was consolidated to the detriment of the old feudal jurisdictions, if well these will not be completely extinct. Two great reigns occupy the first of the centuries, that of Carlos I and that of his son Felipe I I, which is the imperial age of splendor. Faced with this, the 17th century will be the century of decadence, a concept that is under constant scrutiny today, on which it is convenient to firmly qualify the contradictions it contains. Apart from this historical-chronological analysis, a diachronic study that exposes basic conceptual aspects of the life of the Hispanic empire in these two centuries is absolutely essential. They are the points of view of society, of people, wars, living conditions..., but also of the economy, commerce, banking, finance... The other great historical section that is impossible to avoid is the constituted by culture, located halfway between both centuries, which has left us an immense patrimonial legacy.
