The exhibition catalogue is a valuable historical document that brings together an exceptional selection of the artist's works alongside the contexts and references that have marked his creative career. It invites readers to discover how Juan Muñoz builds a bridge between past and present, richly illustrated with the installations on display at the Prado Museum until 8 March.

With texts by exhibition curator Vicente Todolí, Javier Portús (Head of the Baroque Spanish Painting Collection at the Prado Museum), Mark Stuart-Smith (author of Juan Muñoz: The Politics of Silence) and Javier Arnaldo (Head of the Prado Museum Study Centre).

Juan Muñoz was an artist who constantly engaged in dialogue with art history, drawing inspiration from various periods, especially the Renaissance and the Baroque. He grew up in Madrid and the Prado Museum was one of his main sources of inspiration. In particular, his relationship with Velázquez and Goya was fundamental: with the former, he shared an interest in capturing fleeting moments in time; with the latter, he explored the complex line between humour and violence.

Through a journey through his most significant works, the exhibition reveals how Juan Muñoz draws inspiration from different periods to reinterpret their forms, emotions and narratives from a contemporary perspective.
