Luis Egidio Meléndez was the most exquisite Spanish still-life painter of the 18th century. The Museo del Prado has a series of pictures he painted for the future Charles IV "with all the kinds of edibles that the Spanish climate produces". The detail of one of them, Still Life with Grapes (1771), is reproduced on this beautiful placemat, which is heat- and scratch-resistant.
